Wastewater heat recovery from wastewater in sewage treatment plants

Heat recovery with heat pump

Since the temperature of the treated water is too low to be used directly, a heat pump is combined with the heat exchanger. This allows large amounts of thermal energy to be extracted from the treated water. The water from the clarifier is extracted by a submersible pump and then returned. The heat exchanger can be installed outdoors; only a frost-resistant medium must be used for the domestic water circuit. On the wastewater side, freezing of the wastewater (e.g., during shutdowns in winter) does not pose a problem for the heat exchanger.

No filters required for the heat exchanger

FERCHER wastewater heat exchangers (types FB) are special heat exchangers for extremely contaminated wastewater. Pre-filtering of the treated water is not necessary for normal sewage sludge. During normal operation, the heat recovery system is maintenance-free. The heat exchanger can be opened and inspected at any time without interrupting operation.

Use of thermal energy

The thermal energy obtained can be used in a variety of ways, e.g. for heating commercial buildings or for municipal local and district heating.
